Minister Counsellor Dr. Zheng Zhihong Attends the Closing Ceremony of the Lancang-Mekong Project “Establishment of Tourism Research Center”

On March 30, Dr. Zheng Zhihong, Minister Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar attended the closing ceremony of LMC Special Fund project"Establishment of Tourism Research Center" conducted by the MyanmarMinistry of Hotels and Tourismand delivered a speech. U Aung Thaw, Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism and U Win Zeyar Tun, Vice Chairman of the LMC National Coordination Unit (Myanmar) also attend the ceremony.

Zheng extendedwarm congratulations on the successful conclusion of the project and the fruitful results, which has helped Myanmar obtain basic data on tourism industry development, provided reference for tourism policy planning and effectively improved the level of human resources in the tourism industry. In the long run, the project achievements will continue to promote the research of tourism development in Myanmar and the construction of a modern tourism system. China, as a friendly neighbor of Myanmar, always cares for and supports Myanmar in developing the tourism industry, devoting itself to facilitating China-Myanmar tourism cooperation. Chinese tourism industry was recovering to the level before COVID-19 at an unexpected speed. China is among the world’s major tourist destinations and tourist source countries. The reopening of China has played a significant driving role in reopening the international tourism industry, which is crucial to both the tourism industry and the global economy. China’s neighbors, including Myanmar, will be among the first to benefit from the recovery of Chinese tourism. China hopes that the Myanmar side can continue to promote the development of the Myanmar Tourism Research Center with the outcomes of this project and make positive contributions to China-Myanmar and Lancang-Mekong tourism cooperation.

U Aung Thaw expressed his thanks to the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) Special Fund for its support, saying that the project has turned out to be incredibly fruitful, including setting up a research team, making a research plan, forming a research report on Myanmar's tourism data, compiling a training manual, and conducting training in many places across the country. The Ministry of Hotels and Tourismwill make good use of the project results, formulate policies based on data, and build a sustainable modern tourism system.

U Win Zeyar Tun said that the project has ended up far more fruitful than expected. Under the context of global challenges such as COVID-19 pandemic, political unrest and economic downturn, LMC will serve as an important source of regional peace, prosperity and sustainable development.
