On November 23, the "China Video & Photography Week" co-organized by the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar, China Media Group, and the Chinese Culture Center Yangon kicked off in Yangon. Zheng Zhihong, Minister Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar, and U Maung Maung Ohn, Minister of the Ministry of Information of Myanmar, addressed the opening ceremony. More than 80 representatives from all walks of life, including the Chairman of the Myanmar Motion Picture Association, the Chairman of the Myanmar Press Council, the President of Yangon University of Foreign Languages, overseas Chinese, teachers and students of Chinese schools, and the media, attended the event.

Zheng Zhihong, Minister Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar, said in his speech that friendly exchanges between China and Myanmar have a long history. In 1961, a delegation led by Premier Zhou Enlai visited Myanmar and held the first "Chinese Films Week Festival" in Yangon. For decades, China and Myanmar have carried out a variety of exchange activities by means of film and television works. The media agencies of our two countries have cooperated in translating, dubbing, and introducing a large number of high-quality Chinese films and TV dramas. China has helped Myanmar digitally remaster the old film Nga Ba in recent years. Under the new situation, China is ready to further the people-to-people exchanges and cooperation with Myanmar, including film and television works, and share more stories of China with the people of Myanmar to present a more detailed and dynamic portrayal of China. We are also delighted to see more excellent Myanmar films and television works enter China. May the bridge of friendly exchange between our two countries become wider and contribute to the enhancement of people-to-people bonds and cooperation in various fields.

In his address, Minister U Maung Maung Ohn highlighted the deep-rooted cultural ties between Myanmar and China, tracing back to the days of the Kingdom of Pyu and China's Tang Dynasty. He pointed out that in recent years, the two nations have seen a vibrant surge in collaborative efforts across various sectors, including film and television. Notably, translated and imported Chinese films and TV dramas are widely popular among the people of Myanmar. He expressed his conviction that the "China Video & Photography Week" is a pivotal platform for cultural exchange between Myanmar and China, aiming to booster mutual understanding and connections and deepen the friendships between the two countries.

The opening ceremony was followed by a screening of Secretary Axia, a rural revitalization-themed film, which ignited discussions on Chinese films and TV dramas. The five-day event in 2023 will feature classics like Secretary Axia, A Dream of Red Mansions, Journey to the West, Detective Chinatown, and A Bite of China, providing Myanmar's audience with a diverse cultural experience.
