Foreign Minister Wang Yi Meets with Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh of Vietnam

On Aug. 28, 2013, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met at the Foreign Ministry with Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh of Vietnam, who came to China for the Special China-ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting.

Wang Yi expressed that China and Vietnam share common strategic interest with huge potential for cooperation and broad prospects. In the current international and regional situation, only by strengthening solidarity and deepening cooperation, can China and Vietnam work together to cope with challenges and to share development opportunities.

Pham Binh Minh expressed that Vietnam attaches great importance to the relations with China and is willing to unceasingly deepen bilateral strategic cooperation.

Both sides agreed that China and Vietnam should make the joint efforts to maintain high-level exchanges, to well implement the Action Plan for Implementing the China-Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership, to promote cooperation in the fields of economy, trade and connectivity, to enhance exchanges in youth, culture and other sectors, to cement the supportive foundation from the public opinion for China-Vietnam friendship.

Wang Yi reaffirmed China's principle position on the South China Sea issue. He expressed that China and Vietnam should properly handle the South China Sea issue, promote maritime cooperation, try hard to manage and control differences, turning challenges into opportunities.

Pham Binh Minh said that Vietnam is willing, with China, to properly manage the differences over the South China Sea, to jointly safeguard stability in the sea.
